Parentage: P. cathayana x P. rockii. First bloom unknown, first propagated 2022. Late blooming SINGLE to SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are red with purple patches at the base. Flowers are 14-18 cm (5.5-7”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are ruffled, notched, and are typically 6.5 cm (2.5”) in width. Purple flares with sharp edged emanate from flower center and transcend approximately 20% of overall petal length. Fragrant. On average, flowers carry seven yellowish-green, moderately hairy carpels. Stigmas are reddish-purple, and of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2 cm (0.75”) in length, with reddish-purple filaments that fade to white at the tips. Sheath is complete; reddish-purple in color. Fertile both ways. Plants reach 55 cm (21.6”) at maturity, and carry broadly-cut, green foliage. Growth habit is upright. Name romanized is Zhūyánjīn lǚ, roughly translating to “vermillion and gold whisps”.
