Parentage: ‘Soshi’ open pollinated. Garden named “Alice’s Plum”. Mid-late season blooming DOUBLE flowers are primarily dark red with purple undertones. Approximately ⅔ from the outer petals, or ⅓ from flower center, a single row of petals exhibit a distinctive golden-yellow edging on petal margins. Flowers are 15.25-20.3 cm (6-8”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one to four per stem. Guard petals are cupped, lending a slightly cupped shape to the flower overall. Fragrant; an aroma reminiscent of apples, so noted by APS Director, Jill Stevens at the 2024 American Peony Society Convention Flower Show in Bloomington, Minnesota. No reproductive structures present, and no fertility noted. Disk is obscure. Plants carry green foliage, and reach 86.5-91.5 cm (34-36”) in height at maturity. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. As the cultivar has no pollen or stamens, it stores quite well under refrigeration and is a great candidate for cut-flower use as a result. Received a Certificate of Merit at the 2024 American Peony Society Flower Show in Bloomington, Minnesota. The cultivar is named in honor of the hybridizer’s mother, Alice M. Parker, who donated an unprecedented amount of time and effort in support of the Wisconsin Peony Society, as well as various other organizations.
