Azurit
Back to RegistrySeedling H6. Parentage: Raised from open polliated mixed Gansu Mudan seeds. First bloomed 2012. First propagated 2016. SEMI-DOUBLE with 2-3 rows of petals. One flower per stem, 15 cm (6″) in size. Petals pink, tinged blue. As flowers age petals fade to white. Black flares extend about a third of petal’s length, with edges bleeding red. Petals cupped and somewhat ruffled, adding volume to the flower. Carpels white, sparsely hairy, 5-6 in number. Stigmas white, normal anatomy. Pollen-bearing stamens, filaments white. Sheath white, complete. Fragrance. Bloom season early. Typical Gansu Mudan foliage with good substance. Spreading upright growth to 80 cm (31″). The plant habit is relatively small for a Gansu Mudan and therefore suited for the small garden. In the originator’s garden it grows in half shade and seems to like it. Name comes from the blue gemstone Azurite to reflect the bluish pink found in the freshly opened flower. To be propagated and distributed by W. Giessler, Gross-Rosenburg, Germany.
