Back to RegistrySeedling number BF034. Parentage unknown. First bloomed 2018, first propagated 2020. Mid-late season blooming NOVELTY flowers are cactus-flower like, white with dark pink striations. As the flower ages, the white color gives way to green, which lasts for quite some time. The flowers last for quite some time – about three weeks. Flowers are 8 cm (3.15”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one to three per stem. Guard petals are irregular, cupped, frilled, twisted, and average 1.2 cm (0.5”) in width. No fragrance noted. Three to five purple carpels carry dark pink stigmas. Staminodes are present, needle-like in appearance, light yellow, and are typically 2 cm (0.8”) in length. No pollen; produces seeds. Disk is well-developed and white in color. Plants reach 75-90 cm (30-35”) at maturity, and carry narrow-pointed, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is red. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. When open, the flower is very colorful, much like the bird of paradise.
