Christmas Joy
Back to RegistryParentage: ‘Mikado’ x ‘Good Cheer’. First bloomed 2009, first propagated 2011. Previously distributed under an anonymous seedling number. Late season blooming BOMB flowers are bright red, 14 cm (5.5”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are cupped, rounded, and are typically 6.5-7 cm (2.7-2.75”) in width. No fragrance. Three to four sparsely hairy carpels are light-green in color. Stigmas are very pale green, and are of normal anatomy.
No apparent stamens, and hence, no pollen. No seed fertility noted. Leaflets are narrow-pointed, and green in color. Foliage at the time of emergence is red. Plants reach 85 cm (33.5”) at maturity. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. Blooms just as ‘Christmas Velvet’ finishes flowering, giving a red flower even closer to Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere.
