Until Paul Bunyan was introduced Ensign Moriarty was king of the dark pinks, however, although both are classified as dark pink, each has its own individual charm and beauty and shade of dark pink. Paul Bunyan has the deeper shade and blooms later. Ensign Moriarty was awarded the B. H. FARR MEDAL as the best double peony in the National Peony Show in 1962. The bloom is very large, perfectly formed and full double. The medium height plant has strong stems, which holds the large bloom erect. Was Champion Dark Pink many times. This is also an excellent garden peony. One of the great peonies which is a must in every collection.
