Parentage: ‘Old Faithful’ x unknown (label lost). First bloomed 2018, first propagated 2020. Early blooming DOUBLE flowers are a dark, shiny red-purple with darker undertones. Flowers are 15 cm (6”), upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are cupped, rounded, and typically 6 cm (2.5”) in width. Two rows of guard petals encircle three to four rows of central, rounded petals. No fragrance noted. On average, flowers possess three moderately hairy carpels that are yellow-green in color, with red stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens show yellow anthers with a central red line, (a trait inherited from the pod parent) atop yellow-green filaments. Fertile both ways. Plants reach 100 cm (39.5”) at maturity, and carry broad-pointed, green foliage. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. A good grower, and an uncommon dark color among early-flowering herbaceous hybrid peonies.
