Peony Registry

Seedling number BJ#24. Parentage: ‘Salmon Dream’ x ‘Old Faithful’. First bloomed 2011, first propagated 2013. Early midseason blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are strong purplish-red, 15.25 cm (6”), upward facing, and average one to two per stem. Guard petals are typically 7.6 cm (3”) in width, and are rounded and ruffled. No fragrance noted. Flowers carry on average four smooth, nearly white carpels. Stigmas are light white, and of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2 cm (0.75”) in length, with blush pink filaments that transition to white at the tips. Spatulate petalodes are spatulate in form, and yellow to raspberry in color. Produces pollen; seed fertility has not been noted. Disk is obscure. Leaflets are broad-pointed, and green in color with noticeable veining. Plants reach 66 cm (26”) at maturity. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary.
