Seedling number NB10. Parentage: Seidl #15 x ‘Rosalind Elsie Franklin’. First bloomed 2012, first propagated 2017. Early-midseason blooming SINGLE flowers carry petals arranged in three rows; coloration observed is a cream-colored base and a deep lavender overlay. Flowers fade to reveal this cream-colored base with lavender highlights and a picotee edge. Flowers are 17.75 cm (7″) in diameter, outward facing, and average one to two per stem (an occasional side bud when well-grown). Maroon flares with blurred edges emanate from flower center and transcend approximately 10% of the total petal length. Guard petals are round, ruffled, notched, crimped, and typically 4.5 cm (1.75”) in width. Fragrance noted. On average, flowers possess four smooth, green carpels with light-pink stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with maroon colored filaments that transition to light-red at the tips. Fertile both ways when a compatible partner is used in the cross. Sheath is complete, and coral-lavender in color. Plants reach about 107 cm (42″) at maturity, and carry broadly-cut, strong blue-green foliage. Foliage is light-red at the time of emergence. Growth habit is upright, with long stems suitable for cutting. The cultivar exhibits outstanding foliage that is large, well-formed, and dark-colored, making it a good choice for the landscape both in and out of bloom. Striking and easy to grow. Hecate was the Greek goddess of the moon, night, dogs, sorcery, ghosts, and was also worshipped in ancient Athens as a guardian of households – a fitting name for this vigorous and beautiful cultivar. 082024
