Mid-late seasonblooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers display a deep pink interior, fading to light pink at petal margins. Flowers are 20 cm (8”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are frilled, ruffled, pointed, and notched. Fragrant. On average, flowers carry six to eight moderately hairy green carpels. Stigmas are purple, and of normal anatomy. Stamens are between more than 2 cm (0.75”) in length, with dark purplish filaments that lighten near the tips. Produces both pollen and seeds. Plants reach 65 cm (25.6”) at maturity, and carry narrow-pointed, yellow-green foliage. Growth habit is upright. There are few varieties of multi-colored peony, and the plant type, leaves, and growth potential of this cultivar are very close to “Feng Ji”, because it is the bud change (branch change) of the “Feng Ji”. But the flower type is more plump. Because this cultivar was discovered by Liu Hongfan, an engineer from Luoyang Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, it was named ‘Hong Fan’.
