Received October 30, 2021. Parentage unknown. First bloomed in 2016. First year propagated 2017. Early/Mid season bloom (blooms early May in Heilongjiang, China). Purplish-black red DOUBLE, average 4 blooms per stem, 4¾ inches in size (12¼ cm). Guard petals generally smoothly rounded but may occasionally have notching. Petals become gradually smaller as they progress towards the center. Average of 5 carpels, green, sparsely hairy. Stigmas yellow, normal anatomy. Stamens absent. Staminodal disc largely obscure, projections white when present. No seeds reported. Fragrant. Typical lactiflora foliage, green, flushed purplish when young. Upright growth to 38 inches (96½ cm). Mechanical support not needed, thus very suitable for garden display. Particularly cold resistant, which is alluded to in the name.
