Parentage: P. potaninii pollinated by a blend of four suffruticosa cultivars (“Kokamon”, “Hatsugarasu”, “Hei Fu Ren”, and “Sai Mo Lian”). First bloomed 2023, first propagated 2023. Mid-late season blooming SINGLE flowers are deep red, 15 cm (6″) in diameter, outward facing, and average one per stem. Dark red flares with bleeding edges radiate from flower center and transcend approximately 10% of overall petal length. Fragrant. Guard petals are flat, rounded, and are typically 4 cm (1.6”) in width. On average, flowers possess four sparsely hairy, yellowish-green carpels. Stigmas are purplish-red, and of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with filaments that are uniformly fuchsia in color. No fertility noted. Sheath is partial, and purplish-red in color. Plants reach about 70 cm (27.5″) at maturity, and carry finely-cut, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is reddish-green. Growth habit is upright. Named for the flower color and form, the dense golden stamens are surrounded by dark red petals, like golden dragons hovering in the twilight.
