Back to RegistryFirst bloomed 2014, first propagated 2015. Midseason blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are reddish-purple, 14.5 cm (5.7”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are notched, and are typically 5.8 cm (2.25”) in width. Fragrance noted. Three to five moderately hairy, light-green carpels carry reddish-purple stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with filaments that are uniformly reddish-purple in color. Fertile both ways. Sheath is partial, and reddish-purple in color. Plants reach about 75 cm (29.5”) at maturity, and carry broadly-pointed, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is red. Growth habit is spreading. Good resistance to cold and drought. The two words “nong yuan” not only represent the gorgeous flower, but also refer to the agriculture; the specific meaning of the name implies that the flower is like beautiful red clouds.
