Seedling number: SS2017-1. Parentage: ‘Xiang Tian Ge’ x “Lan Hai Bi Bo”. First bloomed 2017, first propagated 2019. Mid-late season blooming DOUBLE flowers are blush pink, 18.5 cm (7.25”) in diameter, upward facing, and average five per stem. Guard petals are pointed. A high degree of fragrance noted. On average, flowers carry four sparsely hairy, pale-yellow carpels with pink stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens transformed to needle-like, oblanceolate petalodes, identical in color to the surrounding petalage. No fertility noted. Disk is obscure. Plants carry broad-pointed, green foliage, and reach 95 cm at maturity (37.5”). Foliage at the time of emergence is fuchsia. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. The petals are substantial, with ample layers adding depth to the bloom. Its fragrance is a rarity, characterized by a sweet peony aroma, a treat for the senses not often encountered. “Sheng Shi Ning Xiang” in Chinese signifies the gathering of fragrance, also metaphorically implying a rich and enduring essence of noble character, culture, or artistic ambiance. It also depicts an idealized societal condition where there is not only material abundance, but also a profusion of cultural and spiritual elegance, symbolizing the pinnacle of cultural prosperity, refinement in social morals, and the harmonious beauty of life.
