Back to RegistrySeedling number Shao Lin 2017-23. Parentage: “Lian Tian Teng” open pollinated. First bloomed 2017, first propagated 2023. Midseason blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers display a pink interior, fading to white at petal margins. Flowers are 20 cm (7.9”) in diameter, upward and outward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are ruffled and notched. Fragrant. On average, flowers possess five moderately hairy carpels that are green in color, and carry purplish-red stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with purplish-red filaments that lighten near the tips. Produces both pollen and seeds. Sheath is complete, and purplish-red in color. Plants reach 98 cm (38.5”) at maturity, and carry narrow-pointed, purple-green foliage. Growth habit is upright. The cultivar’s name is taken from the poem “Peony”, written by Bai Juyi during the Tang Dynasty. The two words before and after the last sentence: “Tian”, and “Lan”, implying the new blue variety given by god, so it is named ‘Tan Lan’.
