Trojan Tomahawk
Back to RegistryParentage unknown. First bloomed 2007, first propagated 2010. Previously distributed as (Trojan) S4. SINGLE flowers are reddish-purple, 20cm (7.8”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Dark purple flares radiate from flower center, and transcend approximately 33% of petal length. A similar white flare appears on the reverse. Guard petals are typically 7cm (2.75”) in width. Fragrant. On average, flowers possess four moderately-hairy carpels that are yellow-green, and carry yellow-green stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2cm (0.75”) in length, with red-purple filaments that fade to purple at the tips. Fertility not noted. Sheath is complete, and yellow-green in color. Plants carry green foliage with an upright habit. Selected in conjunction with Martin Lemon; from a group of seedlings grown from seeds of plants obtained from the Heze Peony Company, China. The name is reminiscent of the breeder’s, as “Sekerka” means a small axe; “Trojan” is a reference to the district where the Prague Botanical Garden is located.
