Back to RegistryParentage: ‘Athena’ x ‘Early Daybreak’. Seedling number Babb’s-K5. First bloomed 2017, first propagated 2021. Early blooming SINGLE flowers are hot pink with raspberry pink flares. Flowers are 17.8cm (7”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Slight fragrance noted. Possesses three moderately hairy yellow-green carpels with raspberry pink stigmas. Filaments are also raspberry pink with light yellow tips and are more than 2cm (.75”) in length – a copious amount fill the center of the flower. Produces both pollen and seeds. Plants reach up to 84cm (33”) at maturity, and carry broad, yellow-green foliage. Growth habit is upright, and does not require mechanical support. Large blooms atop strong stems resemble the bright glow of the hibiscus flower in late summer, though present early in the growing season. Growth is lush and vigorous, leaving lovely, dense foliage after the flowers have bloomed. Rather drought tolerant and a low-maintenance garden subject. Named to honor the registrant’s mother, Vicki O’Neill Curry, a master gardener, for her 70th birthday: May 8th, 2021.
