Back to RegistrySeedling number TP2 54-20 “Big Red”. Parentage: ‘Old Faithful’ x Simmons #32-142 (‘The Mackinac Grand’ x “m.s.b.”). First bloomed 2015, first propagated 2017. Late season blooming DOUBLE flowers are dark crimson, 17-18 cm (6.7-7”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are flat, rounded, lightly ruffled, and are typically 6-7 cm (2.4-2.75”) in width. No fragrance. One to three very small, sparsely hairy, light-green carpels carry pink stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2 cm (0.75”) in length. Filaments are red in color, fading to yellow at the tips. Produces pollen; seed fertility has not been noted. Leaflets are broad-pointed, and green in color. Foliage at the time of emergence is red. Plants reach 80 cm (31.5”) at maturity. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is generally unnecessary, but may prove beneficial in unfavorable conditions. A handsome upright plant with large, bold flowers that seem to last well. Named for the registrant’s father.
