Mid-late season blooming SINGLE flowers are purple, 22 cm (8.6”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Flares, slightly darker purple in color and with blurred edges, emanate from flower centers and transcend approximately 20% of overall petal length. Guard petals are ruffled and notched. Fragrant. On average, flowers possess five to six moderately hairy carpels that are green in color, and carry pink stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with purplish-red filaments that lighten near the tips. Produces both pollen and seeds. Sheath is complete, and pink-purple in color. Plants reach 83 cm (32.75”) at maturity, and carry broad-pointed, green foliage. Growth habit is upright. There are many varieties of purple peony, this variety plant type, leaves and growth potential are very close to “Feng Dan”, but the flower form is dignified, and the seeds are collected from the female parent “Dao Da Chen”, so it is named ‘Xin Zi’.
