Seedling number 5. “Zitan Shengyan” open pollinated. First bloomed 2012, first propagated 2014. Midseason blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are pink, typically 12.7 cm (5”) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are rounded, ruffled, and average 5 cm (2”) in width. Fragrant. Five sparsely hairy carpels are light-green in color, and carry milky-white stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are between 1.25-2 cm (0.5-0.75”) in length, with filaments that are uniformly yellow in color. Fertile both ways. Disk is apparent with few projections, and yellow-green in color. Plants reach 90 cm (35”) at maturity, and carry narrow-pointed, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is purplish-red. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. “Yang” represents Yangzhou University, and “yan” series is mainly used for cutting flowers. “Fei Yun” on one hand, represents pink and indicates the color of the flower; on the other hand, it represents the charm of ancient Chinese concubines and indicates the posture of the flowers.
