Late season blooming SEMI-DOUBLE to DOUBLE flowers are purplish-red, 12-13 cm (4.75-5”) in diameter, upward facing, and average three per stem. Guard petals are rounded. Fragrance noted. On average, flowers carry five smooth, pink carpels with purple-red stigmas of feathered anatomy. Stamens are less than 1.25 cm (0.5”) in length, with yellow filaments. Petalodes are also present, purple-red in color, and oblanceolate in shape. Produces pollen; seed fertility has not been noted. Disk is apparent with few projections, and purple-red in color. Plants reach 92 cm (36.25”) at maturity, and carry narrow-pointed, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is yellow-green. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. A fine ornamental cultivar suitable for the garden. The color of this cultivar is purple, which in traditional Chinese culture symbolizes dignity, nobility, and mystery. The name phrase “Zi Qi Dong Lai” is derived from the I Ching, and means good fortune and happiness. In naming this flower ‘Zi Qi Dong Lai’, it is hoped that the flower will bring good luck and happiness to people.
