THE PEONY WORLD’ S DON’T MISS EVENT-Cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns
Chicago …. Our Kind of Town
CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) NOTICE – Now that the novel coronavirus has been declared an international pandemic, the American Peony Society has made the difficult decision to cancel the Annual Convention scheduled for June 11 – 14, 2020, at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Out of an abundance of caution and concern for our members worldwide, we are following the recommendations from the World Health Organization in an effort to keep everyone healthy and safe. The Board of Directors is working on alternate plans and will post updates here and on social media to keep our membership apprised.=
Members who have already registered for the 2020 convention will receive a refund of their registration fees. We are also working with Embassy Suites to cancel members’ room reservations. Thanks in advance for your patience and support during this time.
Come join fellow APS members and throngs of visitors at the American Peony Society 2020 Convention, held at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, June 13 & 14. (Exhibitioner’s set up is June 11 and 12.)
You’ll want to be part of Our Kind of Town as you take in a stunning APS exhibition as well special public programs and seminars on both weekend days (details – and a special element we’re working on – will be in the next Bulletin.) A highlight, as always, will be all our socializing and counter-bidding at our Annual Meeting and Auction on Saturday Night.
If you’re not already familiar with The Chicago Botanic Garden, it is one of the premier botanic gardens in the world and we’ll be in the very heart of it. Be prepared (but how?) for the horticultural explosion of more than 2.6 million plants in a bit over 300 acres. Every one of us will have plenty to enjoy. Although we’ll be meeting after their peonies have peaked (a mere 1,800 of them dispersed in over 50 garden areas), the inspiration will be contagious.
To help make Our Kind of Town easy on the budget we’ve arranged to be at the Embassy Suites, which is very close to the Gardens. We’ll use the hotel’s shuttle bus for entry. Notice: private vehicles pay a very steep entry fee posted on the Chicago Botanic Garden’s web site: if you choose to stay elsewhere, clarify the budget you’ll need in addition. So mark your calendars, start thinking about how you’ll participate, and get ready for Chicago … Our Kind of Town.
