Peony Registry

HERBACEOUS HYBRID. Seedling number 93-01MM-6-1. An advanced generation hybrid, but exact parentage unknown. First bloomed prior to 1997. First year propagated, 1998. SINGLE. Flowers mid pink, 6 inches (15 cm). Sturdy upright plant to 36 inches (90 cm) in height, with dense, glossy, clear green foliage. The pretty, cup shaped flowers are held close to the foliage. Despite only occasional side buds the plant is very floriferous with the flowers being very resistant to fading and damage caused by inclement weather. Excellent petal substance. Carpels less than four on average, pale green, moderately hairy. Stigmas same colour as the petals. Fertile. Blooms early/midseason, about the same time as ‘Red Charm’. This cultivar is from the seedling collection of Quebec peony breeder Maurice Ménard and was selected by him for further trials before his death in 2002. Chosen to be named after the third president of the Canadian Peony Society, by her family, to celebrate her passion for peonies and to mark a significant birthday. A donation was made to the SPCA Montérégie, Québec, for the privilege of naming this peony.
