Seedling number Seidl #64. Parentage: Seidl #1 x Daphnis223. Advanced generation lutea hybrid. Large waxy, heavy, SEMI-DOUBLE to DOUBLE cream flowers with small dark maroon-red flares, blurring to pink at the edges. Somewhat nodding flowers, two per stem, 7 inches in size (18 cm). Cream stigmas and sheath. Light red filaments and yellow waxy anthers. Reluctant seed producer and no pollen. A much admired flower by many visitors over the years. ‘Moonlit Castle Ruins’ is easily grown, but is not readily propagated through grafting and division. The plants are rather low growing, to 30 inches (76 cm), but may attain greater heights in climates with less extreme winters. Clothed to ground in large deep green foliage. This plant has been lightly distributed under the seedling number and as ‘Moonlit Castle Ruins’. Bill Seidl named this plant for its rather dreamy colored flowers, reminiscent of moon shadows on old limestone castle walls.
