Seedling No. NB40. Parentage: ‘Roy Pehrson’s Best Yellow’ x ‘Vanilla Schnapps’. SINGLE blooms, 5-7 per stem, (6 inches (15cm) in size),with petals large, wide, and pleated (like crepe paper). Bright well defined yellow, though photographs often show it as light yellow. Brilliant red stigmas sit atop light green carpels which are moderately clothed in white hairs. Filaments are yellow for most of their length, but have striking red bases which complement the stigmas and add dynamic interest to the flower. Anthers yellow with much pollen. Disc incomplete, red, mostly obscured. Good fertility both ways. No fragrance. Vigorous plant, stands 38 inches high (96 cm) and makes a rounded bush of equal or greater spread. Flowers displayed well needing no support. Foliage is deep green and healthy throughout the growing season. Awarded a certificate of merit and subsequently advanced to the Court of Honor as best seedling at the 2017 APS Convention (Raleigh, NC). The large number of side buds which extend the bloom season for weeks, as well as it being a bee magnet, suggests use as a good garden plant.
