Late-season blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are red-purple (RHS 63C), 16.5cm (5.5″) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Purple (N79A) flares with blurred edges emerge from flower centers and transcend approximately 32% of total petal length. Guard petals are flat, notched, and are typically 7cm (2.75″) in width. Fragrance noted. Flowers possess on average five moderately hairy, pale-yellow (158B) carpels with yellow (8B) stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2cm (0.75″) in length, with filaments pale-yellow in color (158B). Sheath is partial, and light greenish-yellow in color (8B). Produces pollen, though seed fertility has not been noted. Plants reach 179cm (70.5″) at maturity, and carry broadly-cut, greyed-purple foliage (N187A). Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. Name derived from the shape and color of the flower. When the flowers are first released, they are pinkish-purple, lotus-shaped, like colorful lotus swaying in the wind. When the flowers are in full bloom, they look like a group of butterflies with open and closed wings, which is very touching.
