Early blooming SEMI-DOUBLE flowers are red, 18cm (7.1”) in diameter, upward facing, and average two per stem. Guard petals are frilled and ruffled. Possesses four moderately hairy, green carpels with dark pink stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are more than 2cm (0.75”) in length, with yellow filaments. Has pollen, and produces seeds. Plants reach 76cm (30”) at maturity, and carry broadly pointed, green foliage with undertones of purple. Growth habit is upright, vigorous, and with good stem strength. Mechanical support is unnecessary. A fine cut-flower. Named for Commodus, a Roman emperor with his father, Marcus Aurelius from 177CE until his father’s death in 180CE, then solely until 192CE. His reign is commonly thought to mark the end of the Pax Romana, the “golden period” in the history of the Roman Empire.
