Midseason flowering HERBACEOUS HYBRID peony. Seedling # 1163. Presumed triploid, seed parent is Lactiflora ‘Jesse Morgan’; pollen parent is an unnamed clone of Saunders Little Reds Hybrids (Hollingsworth accession number 95). First bloomed before 1980. First propagated by 1987. The SEMI-DOUBLE flower is made up of 40-60 brilliant red petals (RHS 45B) surrounding a center of pale tipped whitish carpels and a compact cluster of natural stamens. The well-cupped petals have smooth rounded ends. One bloom per stem, flower size 6 inches. Carpels average five in number, moderately hairy, hairs white. Stigmas pale pink, apparently normal. Pollen is sparse and no seeds have been noticed. The flowers are set close to the low medium height bush (24-26 inches (60-65 cm)), stems self-supporting in the landscape. Medium green leaflets sometimes notched at ends. Name derives from the musical arrangement made popular by famous big band era musician Glenn Miller.
