Jiang Nan Li Ying
Back to RegistryParentage: ‘Zi Feng Yu’, open pollinated. First bloomed 2020, first propagated 2021. Midseason blooming DOUBLE flowers are dark reddish-purple with petal edges highlighted in white. Flowers are 14cm (5.5″) in diameter, upward facing, and average one to three per stem. Fragrance noted. Guard petals are flat and frilled, and average 5.7cm (2.25″) in width. Flowers possess five to six smooth, red carpels with red stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are 1-2cm (0.5-0.75″) long, with yellow filaments. Fertile both ways. Plants reach 90cm (35.5″) at maturity, and carry broadly cut, green foliage. Growth habit is upright, and does not require mechanical support. Named for Jiang Nan, the region south of the Yangtze River where the cultivar has been grown with much success, along with the phrase “li ying”, meaning the flowers evoke the figure of a beautiful woman.
