Early-Midseason blooming JAPANESE flowers are dark pink, 13cm (5.1″) in diameter, upward facing, and average one to two per stem. Fragrance noted. Guard petals are cupped and notched, and average 5cm (1.95″) in width. Flowers possess four smooth, light green carpels with purple stigmas of normal anatomy. Staminodes are dark pink with yellow edges. Seed fertility noted. Plants reach 88cm (34.5″) at maturity, and carry broadly cut, green foliage. Foliage at the time of emergence is green. Growth habit is upright, and mechanical support is unnecessary. Named for Jiang Nan, the region south of the Yangtze River where the cultivar has been grown with much success, along with the phrase “zi yun”, which means the flowers are purple and have a distinctive style.
