Midseason blooming JAPANESE flowers are medium violet-red, 13cm (5.2″) in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Fragrance noted. Guard petals are rounded, and average 6cm (2.4″) in width. Flowers possess four tomentose, green carpels with violet-red stigmas of normal anatomy. Linear staminodes are more than 2cm (0.75″) in length; yellow in color. No pollen, but seed fertility has been noted. Plants reach 66cm (26″) at maturity, and carry narrow-cut, green foliage. Foliage color at time of emergence is green. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. Named for its staminodes, which exhibit a beautiful golden color. The overall structure is spherical, giving it the appearance of a golden ball enveloped by the outer petals when viewed from afar.
