Stamens are more than 2cm (0.75″) in length, with uniformly light-purple filaments (75C). No apparent sheath. Produces pollen, though seed fertility has not been noted. Plants reach 200cm (78.75″) at maturity, and carry broadly-cut, green foliage. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. Taken from the Tang Dynasty poet Jia Dao’s “A Friend’s Wedding Yang’s Urge for Makeup”: “I don’t know what night is, but I urge the balcony to be near the mirror. Who said that hibiscus is planted in water, and a branch opens in the bronze mirror.”
