Double type; large; late. Ball-like blooms, with recurved, overlapping petals of dark old-rose-pink of a distinctly violet shade, each petal bordered with slaty lavender or pale grayish white; fragrant. Medium height; very floriferous; adequate stems. Good foliage. A dark, rather opaque pink variety of distinctly bold form and habit. Well liked and reliable. Must not be confused with LAMARTINE (Calot, 1860) which is now generally called GIGANTEA. “One of the few good dark pinks.”—Boyd.
