Purple (N79A) flares with blurred edges emerge from flower centers and transcend approximately 37% of total petal length. Guard petals are flat, notched, and are typically 4.8cm (1.88″) in width. Fragrance noted. Flowers possess on average five moderately hairy, yellowish-white (NN155A) carpels with purplish-red (70A) stigmas of normal anatomy. Stamens are almost entirely transformed to petalodes, oblanceolate in shape, and moderate purplish-red in color (70). Sheath is partial, and reddish-purple in color (70A). No fertility noted. Plants reach 178cm (70″) at maturity, and carry broadly-cut, green foliage. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary. Name derived from the poem “Plum Terrace” by the Song Dynasty poet Li Longgao; “Meitai” describes the noble character of the king of all flowers that stands proudly against all of the other flowers, and “dianjin” refers to the dots of stamens clustered between the petals of the flowers.
