Parentage uncertain, given as possibly ‘Terry Grudem’ or a seedling Lactiflora x P. brownii. DOUBLE. Opening buds have very tightly packed petals showing colors of wine, ecru, and green. Flowers so heavily petalled that buds take several weeks to develop into blooms. Opened flowers show white petals with irregular wine streaks and to a lesser extent ecru and green. Petals are irregularly notched to varying depths and are relatively short resulting in a flattish flower. One bloom per stem, size to 6 inches. No carpels, no stamens and no seeds. Stems are sparsely foliaged. Upright growth, height to 36 inches, mechanical support not needed. Named with permission for Irene Tolomeo of Sonoma, CA, a long time correspondent and respected peony friend. Pronounced “Olay” Irene.
