Parentage: ‘Lemon Chiffon’ x ‘The Mackinac Grand’. Seedling number “Red Seedling”. First bloomed 2016, first propagated 2019. Midseason blooming DOUBLE flowers are red with occasional white flecks and stripes on interior petallage, not visible when flowers are fully open. Flowers range in size from 15.25cm-20.3cm (6-8”) in diameter, are upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are cupped, and lightly ruffled, 6.5-7.5cm (2.5-3″) wide. Fragrance noted, spicy. Possesses two to three smooth, green carpels with cream colored stigmas. Filaments are red, changing to cream at tip. Produces pollen, seeds not noted. Disc is obscure, light yellow in color. Plants reach 76cm (30”) at maturity, and carry broad, green foliage. Foliage is also green upon emergence. Growth habit is upright, and does not require mechanical support. The standout size, unique fragrance, and rich color, with its layers upon layers of ruffled petals like the crinoline on an underskirt make this peony a real “Showstopper”.
