Parentage unknown. First bloomed 2015, first propagated 2016. Early-midseason blooming SINGLE flowers are pink (RHS N73B), 14cm (5.5”) in diameter, upward facing, and average two per stem. Fragrance noted. Guard petals are frilled and notched, and average 7cm (2.7”) in width. Possesses four smooth, yellow-green (145B) carpels with pink stigmas (63D). Stamens are more than 2cm (.75”); filaments are yellow (9A) with yellow tips (9A). Produces both pollen and seeds. Plants reach 89cm (35”) at maturity, and carry somewhat broad, pointed, green foliage. Growth habit is upright and does not require mechanical support. “Zhongxing” is a reference to many followers, and “Pengri” means to hold the sun in one’s hand. When in bloom, the flowers petals circle around its stamens, clustered together in the center; the flower as a whole is as beautiful as the followers holding the sun.
