Average of 3 blooms per stem, size 6¼ inches (15½ cm). Generally 2 rows of petals (13 petals), cupped, width petals may be notched. Opens reddish magenta, but with age fades white from the extremities inward. Prominent boss of pollen-bearing stamens, filaments yellow. Average of 4 carpels, pink, smooth. Stigmas pink with normal anatomy. Fertile both ways. Staminodal disc well-developed, yellowish-green. Midseason bloom period. Fragrance. Foliage burgundy on emergence from ground, stems and leaf petioles retain reddish hues to flowering. Foliage green at maturity. Upright growth to 24 inches (60 cm), mechanical support not needed. Named with the purplish stems and foliage in mind.
